After all the track rankings, Schaff should rank all the wheels in the Mario kart series.

Then with Mario Party: characters, boards, minigames, items

Number 3: Cushion Wheels

Can’t believe DS Boston building was so popular they named a whole city after it truly one of the tracks of all time.
DS Boston Building for wave 6
I hope it gets a sequel: Boston Burg, where you drive through the entire city of Boston filled with mud and walking trees, instead of just the titular Boston Building
@@I_Eated_The_Soap That's a Tour city track I'd be happy to see in the BCP

I actually think Neo Bowser City’s music is some of the best in the series. I love the way it mixes several classic Mario Kart tracks together with some new notes.
The Miis leaving Coconut Mall is almost like a metaphor for what it’s like going to a mall today
What's odd is that SOME malls are filled to the brim with people to point where it can feel too crowded to walk... and others are empty and half of the stores are closed.
Like in South Park
They could make a haunted coconut mall
@@Stephanie-mv9iyi mean depends on the mall, malls in carcentric suburbs are empty in wakeable cities they full.

The atmosphere (especially in 8) is so good and the track design is excellent.
Slippery tracks can go one or two ways; either feeling fair and fun to master or just being excruciating
Luckily, NBC is fair and fun, and combined with the excellent music and atmosphere it’s great

I honestly really like Daisy Hills, the music, the goats, the cottage buildings, windmills, weaving through the hot air ballons, the alternative path on top of the buildings, the verticality of the whole stage, making it really feel like your going up and down hills. It's got a lot going for it imo
That Chris Pratt delayed Koopas joke had me rolling on the floor.
The part where he never just finishes the joke got me, but when he just said KOOPAS I was laughing pretty good
Funniest part of the video imo
Got me laughing that’s for sure

As a person living in the UK, melody motorway sounds so much better than music park. Also it still makes sense because you make the trick jumps by keeping in time with the MELODY.
I also grew up with this game, this being the one that made me fall in love Mario Kart in the first place, so I was hyped when I saw this recommended to me. Loved the video and seeing Mario Kart 7 get the attention it deserves
Also Cheep Cheep Cape, Also Wuhu Island Loop, also Wuhu Mountain Loop, Also Koopa City, Also Alpine Pass, Also Honeybee House, Also Wario's Galleon, Also n64 Koopa Troopa Beach, Also Pirahna Plant Pipeway; man why does europe have to be so specific?
“Music park”
How is it a park? It’s not really a park, it’s more of a motorway
39:53 they really did take Waluigi out of the pinball
On the music of Warios Shipyard at 24:00, it actually incorporates a few references to Wario land, like the bass in the background sounding a lot like Wario boss theme in Mario Land 2, and some other references to Wario Land 1’s main theme. It also has Wario wearing his bull hat from that game on one of the signs and the whole theme of pirate ships is fitting because Wario’s had multiple encounters with them in the Wario Land games. I guess it’s kind of like a metaphor for how the franchise is dead in the water.
Off topic, but, I find it absolutely adorable when people like Schaff have that one character they love more than anyone else and they do stuff like put a bunch of references and memes to that character. Then, it gets to a point where u can't see that character without thinking of that person. U can't see tomotoa without thinking of Schaff.
40:08 I love the way Schaf always puts the emphasis on series: "In the entire...seeeriies." Gets me every time
hey, bro's always had stellar joke emphasis
I mean, he ain’t wrong. That track is absolute fire
3DS Rainbow Road is as close to perfection that a Mario Kart track has ever gotten. It's genuine magic from start to finish
hi
Peak Mario Kart
This magnum opus of a race track really brought out The Rainbow Road in its name.
I genuinely adore 7’s rainbow road I was really happy when it returned in the booster course pass.
except when everyone votes for it online and just become tiring ..
I think something that should be mentioned is the first person mode in this game. For me, as a kid, playing Rock Rock Mountain, going first person up the mountain avoiding the boulders was always thrilling and I loved the course for that. Plus, with airship fortress, the 3d effect absolutely adds to the bullet bills, pairing that with the first person is brilliant
Along with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, this is THE MOST underrated game ever. Even the bad tracks in this game are good.
Props to whoever edited the Dino Dino Jungle segment. Those were some deep cut dinosaur gags
Personally, the reason why the moving Boo pictures in Boston Building make this version better is because they were cut from the original version, now implemented into this version! Gotta love Boston Building in both games regardless.

Actually it’s tour Boston building because you know ITS A CITY TRACK
I legit don’t understand the hate on Neo Bowser City. It’s the only futuristic, cyberpunk-style track the series has ever had. The music is a bop. The corners are really well laid out and fun to drift. It’s one of only two tracks to have ever been in heavy rain. I think it’s really cool.
The rain and neon aesthetic is so good, I dont get how he ranked it so low.
I was about to throw hands when he ranked it that low, but honestly... I can kinda get it for 7. It looks so much more bland than I remember. 8 was so much more of an upgrade than I remembered it being. I still think it's way better than most of the things he ranked it below, but I can understand it.
If he ranks it low when he does 8, I will be throwing hands though.
It’s one of those tracks I grew to love thanks to the 8 version, love the driving in it
The track design is the problem not the aesthetic
Agreed
Schaff casually making a reference to a dinosaur as obscure as Irritator made me really happy.
OMG THANK YOU FOR NOT FORGETTING ABOUT BOSTON BUILDING! Everyone tends to do that and it really sucks because I just adore that course. I'm here before the storm of Zoo Wee Mama approaches, and I gotta say that I enjoy this wondeerfully spooky track too and that it's really funny how hard it is to trick off the staircase leading into the Establishment
Zoo wee mama
Back in the 64 era, when I was just a wee lad, I used to entertain myself by dreaming up and doodling my own Mario Kart tracks. Things like linear 3-part courses, underwater sections, and courses composed of musical instruments like piano keys, xylophones, and drums you could bounce off. Seeing these ideas come to life in future MK was such a jaw dropping shock to me, and one that left me slightly annoyed but mostly amazed, excited, and encouraged. Just maybe I’m cut out to help design video games one day.
Anyway loved the review as always!
Looking back on it, 7 was a lot more important than a lot of people realize.
A lot of 8’s great features, like cart customization, gliding, underwater stuff, and more came from 7.
Also I agree with you lmao, the courses are AMAZING. I prefer them over 8’s base courses.
One attention to detail that I like about MK7 is that when you’re about to start a track with an underwater course, Lakitu’s cloud will have goggles
It’s not a BIG attention to detail, but I thought it was a cute touch

I genuinely think Neo Bowser City is one of the best courses, particularly in MK8. It's a very challenging course that tests your handling and ability to brake drift (in 8 not 7 lol), in a game that's filled with a lot of dumbing down courses to make them easier imo. I also love the aesthetic and music

Fun fact: GBA Bowser Castle 1 was the first Mario Kart course to receive an online patch! There used to be a shortcut about halfway in the course where jumping into the lava would respawn you the other side, skipping about a third of the track

None of the tracks were particularly bad in 7, even if some of them are, or were mediocre.
Overall, still solid, and the most consistently good to feature retro race tracks, so that’s pleasing.
This is definitely an underated entry in the series, but I find that when I watch ranking videos for its tracks, there's one thing I look out for: where they place Neo Bowser City. Unironically, this is my second favorite track in the game (behind Rainbow Road) and among my top 10 courses of the entire series, maybe even top 5. I love driving on this track and I love its theming, but I'm also accutely aware of how divicive it is among fans, so whatever else goes into the ranking, the one thing that I hope for above all else is that it gets a high ranking.

agreed, for me it is literally the perfect track: awesome music, super fun, great aesthetic, not too short but not too long, it marks every box imo
I think about it like an anti Bowser's Castle
Instead of sharp 90 degree turns, massive amounts of lava, and tons of thwomps and obstacles,Neo Bowser City has curves, rain, and no major obstacles on the course besides puddles
Hard agree
I think it would be a great platforming level.
Rosalina's Ice world is top tier to me. The music is magical. Your editor is killing it =D.
Dude... You can not call Rosalina's ice world's bgm forgettable that is by far my favorite track from the game and it is objectively the best 1st place theme in the game
I like how James says the retro selection is peak and the nitro selection is ok, yet last place is a retro track and first place is a nitro track 🤔
To be fair, there's thirty other tracks that go into that ranking.
I did some averages (S=5 points, A=4, down to F=0) for how much James likes each game's tracks (breaking down the applicable games into nitro and retro) and 7's Retro selection is his second-favourite set of tracks behind Wii's Nitro selection. Meanwhile 7's Nitro selection is in joint-fourth with Double Dash (DS Nitro takes the third spot).
He clearly likes 7's Nitro selection way more than Wii and DS's Retro selections, but that Nitro-Retro reversal is definitely there.
Finally someone else recognizes how great MK7's track list is
I can tell that Schaff is procrastinating on making the Super Mario Kart ranking
Ranking Super Mario Kart is going to be absolutely painful. I can't wait to see what he says about Vanilla Lake
As well as his revisit to Choco Island 2, as well as the ongoing donut plains debate
Slander will be deserved
Wonder if it'll be another ranking where it's done in reverse like the Illumination one
Painful for Schaff, funny for us! We'll salut him for his sacrificed sanity!
One thing that keeps me coming back to 7 is actually the Birthday Girl Kart. It changes color depending on what Princess/Female Character you choose. It's such a cute and unique vehicle choice that we never got again.
At least that feature still happens with the peach parasol.
It may seem forgettable now, but 7 will always be 1 of best to me, it also has my favourite controls in the series, its super satisfying to drift and boost into walls without losing momentum.
2:49 I love that phrase: "Dissapointment in the game of life"
5:59 BECAUSE you can make like 3 different videos out of them (Best starter course, best rainbow road, best courses of the entire series....,. and maybe a "worst of the worst" courses)
18:58 Battle mode
I grew up on 7 actually. I played Wii a tiny bit, but it was my 3DS with Mario Kart 7 that really got me into the series. Rainbow Road was always freaking awesome as a kid.
Tho it’s a scandal Neo Bowser City was ranked by the bottom. It’s like if a Mega Man stage was a Mario Kart track
I'd just like to point out that lava can flow underwater. It is extremely hot molten rock that is well beyond water's boiling point. Yes, it will eventually cool and harden, but just because it doesn't follow Minecraft logic and instantly hardens on contact doesn't mean lava can't exist underwater.
The reason people go back to 7 sometimes is because the gliding and underwater driving actually felt different from regular ground movement (as opposed to 8's gliding being rail-roaded to a set direction / dropping you like a ton of bricks, and 8's underwater driving feeling nearly identical to normal driving if you're not playing on Dolphin Shoals). You can basically go anywhere you want with 7's gliders, and the underwater driving feels like you're driving with super low gravity.
I KNEW I WASNT CRAZY! I always felt like the gliding in 7 was way doper then it was in 8 but I couldnt put my finger on exactly why.
Ye they absolutely butchered gliding in 8
Yeah. It's so busted you can easily reach the roofs of the left houses in Daisy Hills at higher speeds.
Mario Kart 7 is amazing and you can't convince me otherwise
One of the most fun I've ever had with the 3DS
It makes me so happy someone popular cares about MK7 in the 2020's. That was my entire teenhood and I'm still pissed it never got DLC
Can't believe Mario kart 7 predicted the death of malls
You should rank the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed courses next just because it's a mixup
You aren't alone Schaffrillas. I also still use the 3D.
Schaff praising MK7’s course selection makes me so happy. Such an under-appreciated Mario Kart game.
EDIT: 39:36 - I still use my 3D slider too. The 3D effect is badass on New 3DS and so much better than the older models. Unless I'm playing CTGP-7, it's always on.
The Wario’s Galleon respect
I played it first, so I love it to death
Honestly MK7 would be one of my most replayed Mario Kart games.... IF IT JUST HAD THE VS MODE! Seriously such a good selection of tracks but you can't choose which specific ones you want to play for normal racing. Instead it's either go through a whole Grand Prix to play the track you want, play it in Time Trails with no CPUs or normal items, play it Multiplayer with friends or go Online (which I can't remember if you can choose specific tracks for it).
Seriously why did they never update this game to have a VS Mode!!!
Absolutely, it would probably be my favorite MK if they had a single-player VS mode, like why couldn’t they add that?
the reason coconut mall is so barren in this game is because it's a dead mall, truly ahead of its time
Lmaooo
30:26 The Miis aren’t underwater. They’re watching the race from outside of the tank you race through.
You say nobody is bending over backwards to gush about wario shipyard and yet here I am. This course is perfect, easily the best underwater track in the series as it fits the theme of a shipwrecked boat so well. The glider section is so fun with the anchor being an obstacle which makes the section more dynamic. The track itself is so layered with so many fun twists and turns like genuinely it's my favourite 7 nitro and a top 3 track of all time for me and I was so sad it's not in the booster course pass as of yet
I know, I love WarioShipyard!

33:12 I think Mario Kart 7 is canonically set in July of 2020, hence the lack of mii's. Also I personally think some of the courses remade for 8 should have been left out in favour of 7 originals, or ones that are now in three games back to back to back, like the wuhu island ones
LOL
From time to time, I like to come back to MK7. I have a great deal of respect for this game, as it tried to shake up a formula that was starting to become stale. As you were saying, it does help that 7 has the overall most solid track selection in the series. The biggest downside to 7 is, unironically, Waluigi's absence. I'm not a huge Waluigi fan myself, but man, does it feel odd to have a roster with Metal Mario and not Waluigi.
Also Melody Motorway is the best track in the game and nobody can change my mind
Ranking neo bowser city this low was a personal attack, I wasn't ready.
same. it’s one of my favorites i was kinda shocked
same fr 😭😭😭
Nah that track sucks
THAT TRACK IS MID
perhaps I'm just too enthralled by courses where you can pretty much drift through the entire track, but man, Neo Bowser City is absolute bliss to race on. nothing is more gratifying than perfecting all of the tight, challenging turns there
It's interesting to hear your opinions on Wuhu Loop and Maka Wuhu because I have the opposite opinion on them. Yes, Wuhu Loop does have you visit a lot of iconic locations, but I generally find that it loses a bit of its luster near the end and the middle, and not every setpiece hits for me.
Meanwhile, I love Maka Wuhu with all my heart. Yeah yeah, you don't visit the volcano, but I don't even care because getting to visit the castle and getting to go into the waterfall cave are really cool setpieces, and dude, that aesthetic, with the sunset combined with the music (Yes, I am aware that Wuhu Loop and Maka Wuhu share music, but I think that it fits better in Maka Wuhu) are brilliant. And it all comes together for a brilliant final lap, with the best glider section in the entire series (okay, maybe not, the final section in 3DS Rainbow Road is stiff competition in that regard) that perfectly illustrated everything great about the course's visuals.
Also, how dare you call Rosalina's Ice World's music forgettable I'm unsubscribing >:( /s
I think the track's layouts make a lot more sense with their European names: Wuhu Island Loop and Wuhu Mountain Loop respectively.
Facts, also I’m more offended by him slandering Neo Bowser City’s music, that’s one of the best songs in the entire Mario Kart franchise
I wonder if Boston Building will become the final tour track in 8 deluxe. Hell it was a tour track before tour was a thing!
ONG YES
Fun fact about Coin Runners actually: The coin limit was supposed to be 99. The game sets 99 as the limit, but still has 10 as the cap when adding to your coin count. Woops!
Also, the rainbow thwomps on SNES Rainbow Road were supposed to be able to crush you in a star, and it'd forcibly end your star too. They use a flag instead of directly checking star status though, so it doesn't actually work... But it functions if you remove it!
Agreed on Wario's Shipyard, for the longest time I forgot it existed but then when I replayed MK7 I realized this course actually has really cool theming
Also Piranha plant slide is what I wish Mario circuit could be, like mario circuit doesn't need to be boring, use stuff from the mainline mario games and make a neat course themed around them!
edit: ikr how dare they do that to Boston Building
Thanks for putting Boston building so high i love that course
Why did he called it Boston bui-
*gets zoo wee mamaed by everyone*
I was to actively excited for this ranking above any others to see where Neo Bowser City went... I am... incredibly distraught
As a Warios’s shipyard/galleon fan, I am much better off
I made a Nitro course ranking before this video and my order was very similar to his except I had Neo Bowser City at Number 2 lol
Who’s saying MK7 is forgettable? It introduced so much and contends for the best track selection in the series
Between Super Circuit and this, it's HARD to decide which is the most underrated Mario Kart... I'm legit more likely to play 7 than 8, it's not just the retro tracks that are total bangers, the new tracks for this game are nothing short of fantastic! And most of the 7 versions of older tracks are, IMO, THE Definitive Versions of said tracks!
I agree so much on Koopa Cape
Great video series man keep it up. Would love to see you do some history of speed run videos for Nintendo games.
After he's done with the courses, he should rank the items.
Best idea yet! He needs to see this comment.
If Triple banana ain't in the top 5 then... i dunno
Or the ctr tracks
Im just happy the Wuhu exploit was included, I miss her every day
pretty much the only thing i'd remember about the wuhu tracks so fair enough
You know, I think its lack of unique features speaks to 7s credit. Because they brought everything back. It all worked so well, they were integrated as series mainstays. Anyway this is probably mainly nostalgia talking Because man I lived 7 back in the day
Imagine if the cave section on Maka Wuhu was replaced by a glider through the volcano
Fun fact: In each thumbnail in this series, one of the four circuits that Schraffillas puts behind the characters is the top one.
He has never put a circuit in the thumbnail
Can't believe he put RR at the top without mentioning the beautiful theme it has, along with the fancy changes once you reach the moon and section 3.
I like how Schaffrillas went the extra kilometer and edited the footage to read "Boston Building" at 26:37 and judged the track based on how well it captures the feeling of Boston to keep the gag going.
Why wouldn't he? Its called Boston Building.
Interesting, but the real reason why he calls it Boston Building is because.......
ZOO WEE MAMA!!!!!!!!
What do you mean edited? It was always called Boston Building
Zoo wee mama
Zoo Wee Mama
37:20 that looks to be the bouncing music note right there though….
Out of all the games, you have to give MK7 credit for having great choices for retro tracks and introducing the ability to customise your cars, which has been an important part of MK8D. While I think gliding isn't the best mechanic, I do think that at times it does add character to a track and makes it more memorable.
Gotta love Boston Building. One of the best tracks
In my opinion for MK7, the best way to end the entire journey is playing as Mario in the standard kart, wheels, and glider in the special cup at 150CC.
It makes the journey feel just complete when you play Rainbow Road for the final time before the credits roll. Just feels so raw and pure.
Obviously, Bowser has a challenging relationship with the local plumbers.... it's understandable how his place stayed flooded at times.
